We will use your information to ensure that we maintain comprehensive and up to date records of the ways we process your personal information and other operational activities. Therefore, we will use the information you provide for record-keeping, updates and general administrative purposes.
For complaint and dispute resolution
We will try to make sure that you are happy with the service we provide and do not feel the need to complain. However, if you do complain to us, we will use the information we have about you to help us manage your complaint and to bring it to a close.
To comply with the law
Like any other business, we are required to comply with many laws and regulations. We will, where necessary, use your information to the extent required to enable us to comply with these requirements.
For eligibility
Runpath will retrieve and use your credit information (as described in the What information do we collect? section above) from one of the three main Credit Reference Agencies. This information will be used to help generate your eligibility rating for products or services or notify you of other credit opportunities, products and services that may be available to you. The eligibility rating is to help you understand whether you are likely to be accepted based on the provider’s criteria. We use this information as part of the following services:
- Runpath Regulated Services Limited’s SmartSearch;
- Forbes’ eligibility checker for credit cards and unsecured loans;
- CompareTheMarket’s eligibility checker for credit cards and unsecured loans; and
- GoCompare’s eligibility checker for credit cards, unsecured loans and secured loans.
Publicly held data, including the electoral roll and shared credit performance data, may be used to support the generation of an eligibility rating. If you have a financial associate, their data may also be provided.
A Credit Reference Agency is a company that collects personal information from various sources and provides that personal information for a variety of uses (including to prospective lenders for the purposes of making credit decisions). More information about each Credit Reference Agency can be found in the “Credit Reference Agencies” section of Who do we share your personal information with?
In some cases, the eligibility result for a particular product or service will be generated by Experian Limited (Runpath Regulated Services Limited is part of the Experian group of companies). If this is the case, they will store your Credit Information (including your eligibility rating[s]) for 2 years in order to respond to any queries or disputes related to the scores. Experian Limited will also store your credit information for up to 30 days after it was collected to re-use it if you request another eligibility check via the same site. This means we will not have to request the data from the Credit Reference Agency Bureau repeatedly.
In some cases, the eligibility result for a particular product will be generated by the product provider utilising: the information we collect about you; the information they hold about you; and information from Credit Reference Agencies. To find more information about these providers, see the “SmartSearch credit providers and brokers” and “Regulated Mortgage Contract providers and brokers” sections in Who do we share your personal information with?
When the Credit Reference Agency receives a search from us, they will place a quotation search footprint on your credit report. This search will not affect your ability to gain credit.
If you choose to apply for a product, the lender will undertake a credit check and provide you with further privacy information for that product.
It is important to note that there may be other products available from lenders who are not represented by this service.
To provide you with information of a recent eligibility search
When you use Runpath's SmartSearch eligibility check service for credit cards and loans on the GoCompare website, we will send you an email that summarises your results if you did not apply for a product after completing your search. This email will only be sent if you have consented for us to do so.
For credit application pre-population
When you use Runpath’s SmartSearch eligibility check services for Credit Cards, Loans and Car Finance, or Forbes' credit card and loan eligibility check service, we may share your data with specific brokers, lenders and providers of credit and financial products to pre-populate the application form on their website.
For Reward Scheme validation
Runpath will use your data to confirm your eligibility for certain rewards schemes. This may include your data being shared between us, the provider from whom you took out a product and the introducer or promoter to our service. This allows the introducer or promoter who runs the reward scheme to confirm your eligibility.
For Broker enquiries
To enquire about or apply for certain loans and mortgages on our comparison sites, you may need to talk to a broker; If this is the case, we will ask for your permission to send your name and contact details to them. Your details will only be sent to the broker of your chosen product.
Further uses of your personal information not described in this Privacy Policy
If we use your personal information for any purposes that are not set out in this Privacy Policy, we promise to let you know exactly what we will use it for before we go ahead and use it.

Consent
We ask for your consent to process your personal data to send you an email when you use Runpath's SmartSearch eligibility check service for credit cards and loans on the GoCompare website. The purpose of the email is to summarise your results and will only be sent if you have consented for us to do so.

- Helping to prevent and detect crime, such as fraud and money laundering. Fraud and money laundering cost the British economy many billions of pounds every year. That cost is ultimately passed on to the public in the form of higher prices. By helping to avoid fraud, such as identity theft, we help to stop this from happening.

While countries in the European Economic Area all ensure rigorous data protection laws, there are parts of the world that may not be quite so rigorous and do not provide the same quality of legal protection when it comes to your personal information.
To make sure we keep your personal information safe, we apply strict safeguards when transferring it overseas. For example:
- Sending your personal information to countries approved by the European Commission as having high quality data protection laws, such as Switzerland, Canada and the Isle of Man.
- Putting in place a contract that has been approved by the European Commission with the recipient of your personal information that provides a suitable level of high-quality protection.
- Sending your personal information to a member organisation approved by the European Commission as providing a suitable level of high-quality protection. For example, the Privacy Shield Scheme that exists in the United States Of America.
You can ask for access to the personal information we hold about you and request that we correct any mistakes, restrict or stop processing or delete it. We will assess your request and, subject to legal or overriding requirements to keep it, we will act on your request. It is worth noting that in some cases if you do ask us to correct, delete or stop processing it, we will not always be required to do so. If that is the case, we will explain why. To request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, please email DSAR@runpath.com.

How do we keep your personal information secure?
Online privacy and security are the most important aspects of any customer service and we take it extremely seriously. We use a variety of the latest technologies and procedures to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, destruction, use or disclosure.
Click ‘Find out more’ below for details about our safeguards and security measures for handling your information.

We restrict access to your personal data to those employees, and third parties, who need to know that information to provide products or services to you. We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to protect your personal data, including sophisticated encryption technology when storing and communicating your data.
Runpath’s hosting provider, where your data is stored, is accredited with internationally recognised security standards including ISO 27001 and SOC 1 & 2.
How long do we keep your personal information for?
We will keep your personal information for the periods set out in the section ‘What information do we collect?’ . Where we are not able to give a specific period, we will keep it only as long as we need it to provide the Runpath products and services you have signed up to. We may also keep it to comply with our legal obligations, resolve any disputes and enforce our rights. These reasons can vary from one piece of information to the next and depend on the products or services you have signed up to, so the amount of time we keep your personal information for may vary.
All data we store is protected with point-in-time restore functionality, which means that we can restore our databases to the state they were in at any point within the previous 35 days. This is to ensure we can access data in the case of potential data loss or corruption. In reality this functionality is rarely used. If it is every effort will be made to delete again any information that had been deleted from the live database since the restore point. These 35 days that we could potentially restore data from is not included in any other reference to how long we retain your data for.
Click ‘Find out more’ below for details about the logic behind how long we keep your information.
